Thanks that you chose to install ccMixter2go. All music you are listening here is provided by the generous artists from ccMixter.org.
ccMixter is a totally free remixing community fully based on the mighty creative commons license model. This means, that everybody is allowed to create remixes of the songs uploaded there. Most artists upload so called stems there.
Stems are single tracks of a song that are intended to be used for remixes. A stem can be a bass line, drums, guitars, vocals, ... basically everything.
This app shall provide you an easy access to the rich world of music from ccMixter. This comes of course with some restrictions and differences compared to the full website ccmixter.org.
I listen to music from ccMixter nearly all the time. Every song I want to listen to again gets a "thumb up". Some I add to playlists, but that happens only for very special songs. So most of the time I have to search for the songs I marked with thumbs.
From time to time I do not visit ccMixter. This happens usually when I am on vacation. When I come back a lot of songs are waiting for me. And which song is the last song I have heard? ccMixer does not tell me this at the moment. And to be honest, there is a lot of music at ccMixter I listen once and then never again. If I even finish listening at all. :) And what about when I am on the road with no broadband internet connection avaiable? ccMixter2go to the rescue!
This app has three main features:
When you start ccMixter2go the first time, it will load the 25 latest songs that have been "ed picked". This is intended to prevent you from having a "difficult" experience. As with every other music portal there will be songs you like and songs you do not like. Songs that are easy to listen to and songs that are for those who love them.
If you want to live the full ccMixter experience, you can deactive the Ed'Pick only mode. But for a good start, you should listen to some ed picks first. By the way: I am allowed to do Ed'Picks do. I focus on electronic stuff.
So you are still reading. That's good. :) Using ccMixter2go is pretty easy.
You do not need to have an account at ccmixter in order to use ccMixter2go. All your favourites are stored on your mobile. But if you create an account there, your favourites will be stored in a playlist at ccMixter. Right now this only works with account that are created with username and password.
Attention: ccMixter does not support https at the moment. That means your password is transmitted unencrypted from the ccmixter2go-proxy to ccmixter. The proxy is in fact only needed because of ccmixter's lack of https.
Besides the ability to enjoy your playlist directly at ccMixter, ccMixter knows which songs you like and can use this knowledge to create playlists with the songs used in many playlists. A nice feature that can help new users to find the best songs. So maybe you want to give it a chance.
If you decide to sync your favourites, the mobile will stay the master if it comes to the decision if a song shall be removed. But you can add songs at ccMixter.org to your playlist and they will be added to your local favourites list.
